Group Mentor Coaching Program

Hello coaches! Are you pursuing or renewing your ACC or PCC credential through the International Coaching Federation (ICF)? Earn the required 10 mentor coaching hours, sharpen and learn new skills and have some (a lot of) fun in my upcoming group mentoring cohorts.

Upcoming program dates:

Winter/Spring 2025:

January 10-April 4

Bi-weekly Fridays, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Pacific / 11:30-12:30 p.m. Eastern (subject to change closer to start date)

In this ICF-approved Continuing Coach Education (CCE) program, along with getting your mandatory 10 mentor coaching hours, we answer the question: How do the core competencies live uniquely through you?

Because, come on…reading the list of competencies and behavioural markers and talking about them is borrrrrring (trust me, past participants have told me!).

Bringing the competencies to life through your unique coaching style and flavour is…Exhilarating! Intimidating! Fun! Scary! Playful! Expansive! Messy! Where the learning’s at!

This group mentoring program might be right for you if…

You need:

  • 10 hours of mentor coaching to achieve or renew your ICF credential

  • To submit a high-quality recording(s) of your coaching to the ICF

  • To understand how to prepare for the ICF exam

And you want:

  • To deepen your understanding of the core competencies and understand what assessors are listening for in recorded calls

  • To demonstrate the core competencies with confidence and authenticity — in your own unique style

  • Personalized, specific and compassionately-delivered feedback on your coaching so you can submit a high quality recording as part of your credential application or renewal, or to improve your coaching (if you don’t need to submit a recording)

  • To invigorate your coaching approach and get out of a coaching slump

  • To get lots of practice coaching and being coached in a learning environment

  • To witness and learn from other experienced coaches

  • To add new skills, practices or processes to your coaching toolkit

  • To develop personal reflection practices and skills for ongoing development

Program Outline

By definition, mentor coaching focuses on growing your understanding and demonstration of the the ICF Core Competencies in your coaching practice, so that’s the main focus of this program.

*I’m currently updating and expanding the curriculum for this program, so the how will be changing slightly (or significantly in some cases!) from what’s listed below.*

The program delivery will continue and evolve to be:

  • With intentionally small groups - benefits: you each get lots of air time, personalized and flexible learning environment, opportunities to coach and be coached, and to create stronger connections between participants

  • An experiential group learning environment: facilitated group session, 1:1 mentoring and self-directed components of the program with content delivered in a variety of formats - benefits: taking in and processing information in different ways ensures you integrate and lock in the learning, apply it in real-world coaching and grow your confidence and skills

  • Expressed through Jilly’s values-based approach: with compassion, warmth, humour, realness and practicality, strengths-based to unlock your own wisdom and unique style, flexible and adaptable to the group’s needs and wants

Group sessions include discussions to explore the ICF Core Competencies and PCC markers in action; in-session peer fishbowl coaching and/or recorded call reviews, with observation, analysis and feedback; personal reflection and application in real-world coaching sessions; and group support and accountability.

Group Sessions Outline (based on a 5-session program )

Session 1: Agreements, Openings & Closings (Competencies 3, 8)

In our first session, we’ll focus on creating clear agreements with your clients, and the key components of opening and closing coaching sessions that ICF assessors will be listening for in your recorded call(s). We will listen to the opening and closing portions of a few recorded calls and/or practice these skills live. These are the most-often asked about competencies by coaches!

Session 2: Showing up as coach: Presence, Trust, Safety (Competencies 4, 5, 6)

In our second session, we’ll focus on you showing up as coach -- with a coaching mindset, while demonstrating ethical behaviour, paying attention to how you create trust and safety, and how you connect and stay present with your client.

Session 3: Responding to your client: Curiosity, Listening, Permission, Non-attachment (Competencies 4, 5, 6)

This session shifts our focus to the client, and how you choose to respond to what they say and do, and what they don’t say and do, through the lens of what assessors will expect to hear in your recorded call(s). We’ll listen to portions of recorded calls, or live demo coaching, and explore how the coach’s choices serve their client while demonstrating the required competencies.

Session 4: Awareness, Action, Accountability & Growth (Competencies 7, 8)

Our fourth session focuses on the portions of coaching sessions that generate insight, learning and action, and will explore the ways of questioning and evoking transformation and commitment that your recording will need to demonstrate. This is often one of the more challenging skillsets for some coaches.

Session 5: Ethics, Questions, Review & Celebration

In our final session, we’ll touch on ethics and any remaining competencies that haven’t been explored fully, as well as review what might still be fuzzy and celebrate your learning.

Logistical Details

  • All sessions delivered virtually through Zoom.

  • Resource materials and self-assessments are provided in advance of the first group session.

  • Each group member receives EITHER 5 group sessions (4 x 90-min and 1 x 60-min, totalling 7 hours) OR 7 group sessions (7 x 60-min totally 7 hours) AND 3 individual 60-min sessions, over a minimum 3-month period.

  • Please note: The full mentoring engagement (group + individual) MUST SPAN 3 full calendar months to meet the ICF requirement. For example, if we begin on January 1, the earliest you could submit you application or renewal (assuming all other criteria are met) is April 1 (the mentoring would occur within the full months of January, February and March).

  • Group sessions must be attended live in order to receive credit for mentor hours and CCE units. You are able to miss one group session and will be required to review a recording and have a catch-up session with Jilly.

  • The 3 individual sessions can begin before the group sessions, run concurrently with the group sessions, or after the group sessions are completed, and include review and discussion of 3 pre-recorded coaching sessions that you provide.

    • The individual sessions involve each of us listening to your recordings before we meet, and assessing them against the PCC markers, then sharing our findings once we meet. I’ll point out examples where you’ve clearly and strongly demonstrated the appropriate competencies (based on what the client offered you), and point you to areas of growth and refinement.

    • While receiving feedback on your coaching can feel daunting, it truly is one of the the best ways to learn and grow as a coach, and to ensure you’re serving your clients in alignment with the ICF core competencies.

    • If receiving feedback is uncomfortable for you, please let me know — I take special care and bring a gentle approach to it!

  • OPTIONAL Group or Solo Session: Application Process and Exam Prep

Many coaches have questions about the application process itself AND the ICF Credentialing Exam, so I’ve added an optional session to cover these topics. I’ll provide a walk-through of the application process and some tips and resources to help you prepare for the exam.

  • OPTIONAL: Participants have the opportunity to contract independently with other participants to exchange, barter or purchase coaching sessions, outside the group sessions, to practice what is learned during group and individual mentor sessions and further integrate their learning.
